About the Role

The Chief Marine Engineer leads a small team responsible for the provision for ensuring technical integrity and the effective delivery of marine engineering for the ABF Fleet of large and small hull vessels.

The incumbent ensures that engineering services and the Fleet Regulatory model establish sound engineering practices that interface to the Marine Regulator, Class Societies and In Service Support providers.

The role requires a highly skilled and motivated leader with experience in managing high-pressure diverse workloads. It is important to note a key part of the role is to provide engineering assurance over the work of contracted In-Service Support providers, consistent with contractual arrangements.

Requirements

The Chief Marine Engineer will have demonstrated experience in the managing and leading a team.

 

The Chief Marine Engineer will have strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with service providers, stakeholders and clients.

 

The Chief Marine Engineer will have the ability to respond clearly, comprehensively and quickly to urgent executive requests.


Mandatory


  • Possess or able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance and Employee Suitability Clearance (ESC).

  • Demonstrated ability in managing teams.

  • Qalfications including:

    • Degree in mechanical engineering or marine engineering that is recognised by the Institution of Engineers Australia and eligible for Chartered status with a minimum of

      10 years’ experience at a senior level; and

    • Marine qualifications as a marine engineer in either Naval or Merchant Marine service.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant Australian legislation and standards.

  • Possess sound understanding, critical analysis and reasoning skills in identifying and addressing complex and/or sensitive issues.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Strong briefing and communication skills.

  • Possess strong stakeholder liaison and relationship management skills.


Desirable


  • Post-graduate engineering qualifications at Master’s level in maintenance management or asset management, will be highly regarded but not essential.
